Requirements / Qualifications
The Basketball Head coaching position is currently being offered at American Canyon Middle School. Candidates should be experienced in the sport, have coaching experience, and a resume of working with student-athletes. American Canyon Middle School desires to select a coach who is committed to developing young athletes both on and off the field.
Applicants will be required to obtain:
- First Aid/CPR
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
- NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- NFHS Concussion in Sports
- NFHS Heat and Illness prevention
- All other Napa Valley Unified School District Human Resources required documents
The season begins in September for 5 weeks. The coach receives a district stipend at the end of the season. Duties include a five-week schedule, conducting daily practice, managing equipment, traveling with the team to away games, developing positive relationships with parents and players, and planning an end-of-season awards recognition. Must have basic knowledge of the following:
- Character-building aspects of sports, including techniques and methods of teaching and reinforcing the core values comprising sportsmanship and good character
- Knowledge of physical capacities and limitations of the age group coached
- Coaching principles related to educational philosophy, adolescent psychology, nutrition, risk management, and the rules and strategies of the sport
