Requirements / Qualifications

The Basketball Head coaching position is currently being offered at American Canyon Middle School. Candidates should be experienced in the sport, have coaching experience, and a resume of working with student-athletes. American Canyon Middle School desires to select a coach who is committed to developing young athletes both on and off the field.

Applicants will be required to obtain:

• First Aid/CPR
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• NFHS Concussion in Sports
• NFHS Heat and Illness prevention
• All other Napa Valley Unified School District Human Resources required documents

The season begins in September for 5 weeks. The coach receives a district stipend at the end of the season. Duties include a five-week schedule, conducting daily practice, managing equipment, traveling with the team to away games, developing positive relationships with parents and players, and planning an end-of-season awards recognition. Must have basic knowledge of the following:

1. Character-building aspects of sports, including techniques and methods of teaching and reinforcing the core values comprising sportsmanship and good character
2. Knowledge of physical capacities and limitations of the age group coached
3. Coaching principles related to educational philosophy, adolescent psychology, nutrition, risk management, and the rules and strategies of the sport
